Medical care in the United States is highly fragmented and complex. It is hard for anyone to navigate this enigmatic system– and even harder when you are ill and not feeling well. When you or a loved one are sick and faced with a frightening diagnosis, potential painful testing and treatment, and a myriad of indecipherable insurance bills piling up on the dining room table – it can feel quite overwhelming.

That’s where Advocate can help you.  Advocate is the home of physicians and nurses who are board-certified practitioners and expertly-trained patient advocates who work with you and for you.  Advocate serves as a bridge that joins you with your health-care provider and helps you to make medical decisions that are in your best interest.  We work in your best interest.

Our physicians and nurses are available to accompany you to medical appointments, to help you to make sense of treatment options that are tailored to your values and risk tolerance, and to aid you in navigating your medical insurance.

How do we do this?  We have a whole menu of options tailored to your specific needs. For example, we can provide you with highly trained medical professionals who can accompany you to medical appointments or stay by your bedside in the hospital. As medical professionals, we give a voice to patients by asking questions of your doctors and nurses that only another doctor or nurse would know how to ask. And because we are medical professionals, we can review your prescriptions and medications to be sure there are no conflicts. We can also help you learn more about your medical condition and treatment options, help you understand informed consents, and gently guide you in making the difficult decisions that accompany complex medical conditions.

Sound good? There’s more.

Many of our doctors, nurses, and psychologists specialize in geriatrics and geropsychology and can help you with end-of-life planning and paperwork, such as living wills, DNRs and other advance directives. We can also help your family come to agreement on decisions that need to be made for a loved one who cannot make them on his/her own.
